I sat in the dunes and sketched the flowers which are so different in cornwall and so abundant in June with snails ,caterpillars and little birds everywhere. On returning to the chalet i painted this little canvas.

Painted from my window a view I've looked at for a long time and wanted to paint then I bought the bird in Lyme Regis, the quinces came from a friend's tree and the anemones from a neighbour. I wanted to put it all together and make this painting with the shadows of the chimneys on the hedge.

Sitting in an olive grove in Tuscany in November I painted a watercolour study of this couple working away by hand collecting their olives while they chatted oblivious to my presence. Late on in the next year I painted this oil from my sketch.
