About Louise Waugh
Drawing is the bedrock of my work , it is the first stage apart from selecting visually, in the creative process. It is through drawing that I internalise the spirit of my subject. It is not the absolute visual reproduction that I seek but the very essence of it.
My sketchbook is always with me and if I am away travelling as soon as I return I will begin work in my studio still holding the memories of the place.
Alternatively I take my easel down to the sea or onto the hills and record my subject with oils or acrylics and then develop a larger painting or print from this small study
Landscape, the sea, racing skies shadows over the hills, blue distances, lanes disappearing through valleys and over hills and objects on a table of the day and what they mean to me.
I was an original member of The Bristol Print Workshop and went on to study etching in Spain at La Fundacion de Rodriguez Acosta in Granada, spain.
I studied teaching but put all my energy into painting and printmaking and have been exhibiting in the UK , USA and Europe for the last 30 years.
Recently I was sponsored by the DTI to have a stand at an International trade fair in New York and as a result have work reproduced in The UK and USA.
I am currently painting and will be tutoring this summer with www.andalucian-adventures.co.uk in Spain and Italy.
